Interview and giveaway with author Christina Ashcroft
For the first time we’re welcoming author Christina Ashcroft to our little corner of the web. She’s here with us today to talk about her new series about Archangels and the first book in that series, Archangel of Mercy.
Make sure to keep reading after the interview to learn how you can enter into Christina’s giveaway.
Is it challenging to switch from writing books as Christina Phillips to writing a completely new series as Christina Ashcroft?
Thanks for having me at Paranormal Haven today to chat about my new release, Archangel of Mercy from Berkley Heat! It’s great to be here 🙂
I was first published as Christina Phillips with my erotic historical romances, Forbidden and Captive, but the funny thing is I wrote the original version of Archangel of Mercy a couple of years before the idea of Forbidden came to me. In the beginning, AoM was going to be a novella but when it was done I knew there was so much more to Gabe than I’d been able to discover and so I shelved the story for several years.
I find the biggest challenge is not so much switching from writing historical to contemporary paranormal, as I feel my voice remains the same, it’s the research involved for my historical romances. While I love the work involved in hunting down elusive facts, it is hugely time-consuming. When I changed gears after finishing Captive and went back to the world of my archangels it was completely wonderful to just, you know, make things up!
How is your new series about fallen Archangels different from others like it in the paranormal genre?
The wonderful thing about the Archangel books on the market is how different they all are from each other. Even when similar elements or legends are incorporated it all comes down to the unique individual world the author creates. My Archangels live in the contemporary world where humans know nothing about their existence, except from myths and legends—and not surprisingly the myths and legends have got a lot wrong. It so happens the humans are pretty clueless about the other paranormal beings that share their world, too, but my dhampirs and vampires don’t appear until book two, Archangel of Death.
So while my Archangel Gabriel is one of the Fallen, I twisted the reasons why and how to create my own universe. It’s a lot of fun doing that 🙂
Can you tell us a little about your upcoming release, Archangel of Mercy?
The Archangel Gabriel is a tortured hero who suffers from survivor’s guilt and the heartbreaking knowledge that he is forever separated from his soul mate. It’s for these reasons he fights his growing attraction toward Aurora—not because he has a pathological aversion to commitment but because he no longer possesses the capacity to love.
As for Aurora, although in many ways she is the girl-next-door type she does have one significant difference to every other human Gabe’s encountered. And the consequences of her actions in trying to claim her heritage is the catalyst that causes an Archangel to fall from the heavens… and into her arms.
Is Gabriel the type of hero that will sweep a girl off her feet?
He’s a pro at sweeping a girl off her feet, but until he meets Aurora none of it has meant anything. Sex is one thing, but falling is something else, and Gabe swore millennia ago that he would never love again. But when Aurora’s life is in danger he doesn’t think twice about saving her skin. It’s only afterwards he realizes how far reaching the consequences of his actions are going to be but by then it’s far too late!
What 3 words best describes Aurora Robinson?
Girl-next-door (with a twist!)
Is it love at first sight for these two?
It’s definitely lust at first sight! The love takes a little longer and both Gabe and Aurora fight it all the way. Gabe because of the events in his past and his belief that he no longer has a heart left to give, and Aurora because of her unique heritage and the certainty that if she gives her love to Gabe it will only end in heartache.
Would you want to date any of your fallen Archangels?
Totally!!! I fall hopelessly in love with all my heroes and Gabe stole my heart with his crippling sense of survivor’s guilt and certainty that he could never love again. In Archangel of Death, book two in the series, I loved how Azrael was so sure he was immune to falling in love (ha! He was so wrong!) I’m still exploring ideas for the third book but I already have an image of the archangel in my mind. Jason Momoa *fans self* I would date him in a heartbeat!!!
If your book came with a warning label, what would it say?
Contains dark, deadly Archangels, fiery women and a battle that threatens to consume the world…
What can we expect to see from you in 2013?
From Christina Ashcroft there will be news of when book 2, Archangel of Death, will be released. From Christina Phillips, the next two books in my Roman/Druid series, Betrayed and Tainted and a naughty dark vampire Regency Bloodlust Denied are coming from Ellora’s Cave. I also have a hot Highland Warrior series on the bubble with Ellora’s Cave.
I have an e-copy of my erotic paranormal romance, FORETASTE OF FOREVER (w/a Christina Phillips) and some gorgeous Archangel swag to giveaway to one lucky commenter. Just leave a comment or let me know do you believe in love at first sight?
and a raw passion that challenges them at every turn…
When Aurora Robinson attempts to open a rift between dimensions to embrace her true heritage, an arrogant Archangel is the only one who can save her from the jaws of hell. And while she owes Gabriel her life, she’s determined not to fall at his feet-despite the desire she feels whenever they’re together.
After his wings were brutally destroyed millennia ago, Gabriel has no compassion for humans like those who ruined him and betrayed the ones he loved. But when he inexplicably finds himself defying ancient protocols to rescue a woman from a fate worse than death, he is shocked by the searing attraction he feels for a mortal.
As the ancient forces that seek to punish Aurora for her actions close in, Gabriel offers the tempting woman protection at his private sanctuary. But as they both succumb to their desires, they discover an even deeper connection-one that threatens to consume them.
As Christina mentioned above, she’s giving away an e-copy of Foretaste of Forever plus Archangel swag. This giveaway is open internationally and the winner will be announced on December 1st. Please read giveaway policy before entering.
