Bastien has had a rollercoaster of a time lately one minute he thinks himself a vampire with an ax to grind with the Immortal Guardians, so he sets in motion his revenge. Only to then find himself not a vampire at all but and immortal and now part of the Immortal Guardians. Of course with is jaded past no one wants to befriend him except the lovely doctor Dr. Melanie Lipton. She even helped him with his vampire followers who surrendered to the immortals when they took in Bastien. She showed him and his fellow vampire solders kindness that has not ever been shown them. As much as he tries he can’t stay away from her. This becomes increasingly more difficult when he is injured and placed in her care for a whole day.
Bastien was more than the bad boy she knew she shouldn’t want, there was something deep down inside him that drew her to him, a deep kindness he never shows any one. When Bastien show his interest in her there is almost nothing that will stop her from getting her man, even if said man is reluctant to be had. The fact that he worries about her treatment if she associates herself with the likes of him only endures him more to her.
This was another good addition to this series. I started to like Bastien in the last book and fell in love with him in this one. He has such a bad reputation, no one even wants to be around him. Few even give him a chance before condemning him. He refuses to tell them all the events that lead to the death of their friend (the main reason of all the immortals hatred) they may would understand but he refuses to explain himself opting to just be exiled from the group instead. But Melanie will not hear of it, to his surprise she comes to his defense many times at the risk of her own exile. What becomes even more surprising to Bastien in the sudden friendships he gains once he show them he can have a little companion for someone he is not the cold hearted bastard they all thought him to be.
I love all the immortal warriors but I think Bastien will have a special place in my heart. He is such a undercover sweet heart. But there were times when I think he was a bit over the top sweet. The whole book over all was action pack, non-stop can’t put my book down entertainment. The story line was good and had closer at the end. You know there will be more to come because there are still several more immortals without mates so we will have to have more books, but she ended the main story line in this book. It is kind of nice to have closer every book so that you are not dragging the same bad guy out in every book, thinking aren’t these guys bad asses why can’t they catch him. No, I like the way Dianne completes her story with each book. There isn’t much more I can say without giving the whole book away, but if you like books with strong sexy warriors with a great story you may want to add this series to the every growing book list you have.
