Interview and Giveaway from author Jennifer Estep

We have the pleasure of once again having author Jennifer Estep with us today to talk about her Elemental Assassins series and her most recent release, By A Thread.

Make sure to keep reading after the interview to learn how you can enter to win a copy of the book for yourself.

What is Gin, Bria, Finn, and the rest of the Elemental Assassins gang up to in By A Thread?
I’ve been calling this my “Gin on vacation” book. Basically, Gin decides to get out of Ashland for a few days so she can rest, relax, and recharge after everything that happened in Spider’s Revenge. But Gin’s vacation ends up being anything but relaxing. One of Bria’s friends is being threatened by a particularly nasty vampire, and Gin decides to come to the rescue – and finds herself in just as much trouble as ever. There’s also some emotional fallout between Gin and Bria because of what happened in Spider’s Revenge, so Gin is dealing with that as well.

Has Gin changed since her battle against Mab Monroe?
Gin has changed. Killing Mab was such a big focus for Gin for so long, and now that Mab is dead, Gin sort of finds herself at loose ends. One of the things I wanted to explore with By a Thread and the next few books in the series is what happens when the heroine finally defeats her nemesis. What are the consequences of that? What’s the emotional fallout? So those are some of the things that Gin has to deal with in By a Thread and beyond.

What is Jonah McAllister up to since Mab’s death?
Oh, that Jonah. He’s always scheming. Now that Mab is dead, Jonah realizes that he needs a new boss, so he’s been putting out feelers to the other underworld figures in Ashland. He’s also got his sights set on Gin – and is busy plotting her death.

Has your series unfolded the way you originally planned?
The overall story arcs have gone pretty much how I thought they would – Gin going after Mab, Bria coming back to town, Gin and Mab having their showdown.

But I’m a panster so I never know what will pop up while I’m writing a book. For example, at first, I thought Roslyn was going to be a minor character, but as I wrote Spider’s Bite, Web of Lies, and Venom, I kept coming back to her, until now, she’s part of Gin’s inner circle. The same sort of thing happened with Jonah McAllister. At first, he was just going to be one of Mab’s flunkies, but I’ve had so much fun pitting him against Gin that he’s developed into another nemesis for her.

What do you have in store next for this series?
Widow’s Web, the seventh book, will be published on Aug. 21. That book delves into Owen’s backstory, and readers will learn more about his growing up in Ashland.

There will be at least three more Elemental Assassin books after that, so I’ll be writing about Gin and the gang for some time to come.

Is there any celebrity chef Gin would like a chance to cook with?
Hmm. That’s a tough one, but I would say Sandra Lee. She has a lot of tips and tricks, and I think those would help Gin with her cooking and still leave her plenty of time to battle the bad guys.

  1. such a fan of this series. can’t wait for more!

  2. Hmm I’d like to see Gin and Owen with one of my other favorite couples, Elena and Raphael from Nalini Singh’s series. Maybe Gin and Elena can teach each other some killing and combat tips!

  3. Nice! This is one of my favorite series ;D
I can’t wait to read Widow’s Web. When I first heard the title, I thought something was going to happen to Owen (I mean, “widow” can’t be a good thing…) but now, I’m positive things will work out well!

  4. Very happy to hear that the next book gives us a closer look at Owen, I love him. And I like that you are keeping the series going after the arch nemesis is gone, it’s almost like finding out what happens after the HEA.

  5. Oh yeah I could find them hanging out with Kate and Curran. Going out to some fancy dinner all dressed up. But of course something would happen and the restaurant would end up totally trashed. =)

  6. A double date with Gin and Owen and Kate and Curran from Ilona Andrews series. I can see the guys standing or sitting around cool and friendly and the gals kind of circling each other a bit until they got to know each other better. I think Curran would enjoy all the meat at The Pork Pit.

  7. I would love to see a double date between Gin and Owen with Mercy and Adam. They would have some very interesting conversations at Macks Pizza on the Wildwood Boardwalk.

  8. From Jennifer:

Jen — Thanks! Glad you are looking forward to WIDOW’S WEB.

Anne — That would be an interesting double date.

  9. Great book– can not wait for the next in the series

  10. Oh Jonah… what a baddie. I can’t wait for that showdown. I also enjoy Roslyn. I’m wondering if Sophia’s story will come out more? I’m curious about her.

Great book! Oh… can I has Owen???

  11. That’s a tough question for me to answer since I haven’t read any of the books… So… I guess I’ll just acknowledge that I can’t answer it… yet.
I do have them down to read… I just need to pick them up (or win one to get me started!) LOL!
    Thanks for the contest!

  12. How could I have missed this series?! Since I haven’t read this series, I have NO idea who they should double date with.

  13. Great series! Thanks so much for the interview!!

  14. Okay now lets keep in mind that I have not yet had the pleasure of reading this series, although it is on my wishlist :) I am going to have Gin and Owen double date with Sookie and Eric, just cause it might shake some things up here LOL I would have them start out at Fantasia and end up at Merlots where they would enjoy good company and may a chicken basket with fries and of course a little TB. Thank you for the fun.

  15. This series has been on my TBR list for a while and I think I need to up it. It sounds great, thanks for the giveway!

  17. Would love to team up Gin and Owen with Lily Yu and Rule Turner from Eileen Wilks series. Rule and Lily could show them both the magic of their world.

  18. I think they would have a great double date with Cat and Bones from the Night Huntress series. I think Bones and Gin will have a lot to talk about with their former assassin background. :D

  19. A lot of good suggestions already but I will go with Elena and Clay from Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld books. I’m not sure where they would go but definitely somewhere with a lot of food (Elena and Clay are werewolves after all).

  20. This comment has been removed by the author.

  21. I haven’t read this series…yet that is. It’s on my to-read wish-list. Thank you for the chance to win! I’d say they should double-date with Cat & Bones from The Night Huntress Novels by Jeaniene Frost. Where should they go? I’m really not sure yet…but it would be interesting nonetheless. :D

  22. A few more comments from Jennifer:

Cathy — That sounds like an interesting date.

Toni — I think Cat and Bones would be a lot of fun to hang out with.

Whitewolf — That would be an interesting evening too.

Sacredmoon — Thanks! Hope you get a chance to check out the series

  23. I think Gin and Owen would go on a double date with Dragos and Pia from Thea Harrison’s Dragon Bound in her Elder Races series. They would go to dinner in Dragos’ penthouse. They would be able to look at the NY skyline lit up at night.

  24. I love this series of books and I can’t wait to see what happens with Gin. I’m trying to think about the double date with Gin and Owen…Allie and Zayvion from Devon Monk’s series would be a cool mix.
