Our favorite 10 of 2010

We have reached the end of 2010 (where the hell did the year go?) so we decided to whip up a list of our favorite reads of 2010. These books may not have come out in 2010 but this past year is when we read and reviewed it.

Stephanie’s Top 10

Mind Games/Double Cross by Carolyn Crane ~ I know I’ve repeatedly said how much I love these books but it’s worth mentioning again. The Disillusionist series has everything a fan of Urban Fantasy would want and everything you didn’t even realize was missing.

Born of Night/Born of Fire by Sherrilyn Kenyon ~ I’m not a big fan of Sci-Fi but after reading Sherrilyn Kenyon’s complete Dark Hunter series, I needed more. So I picked her League series and loved it. There are 3 books out right now but I think the first 2 are the best so far.

Pleasure of a Dark Prince by Kresley Cole ~ I stopped reading this series after the 3rd book but as soon as I heard Garreth was getting his book, I picked it back up. The Immortal After Dark series has its ups and downs but I think Pleasure of a Dark Prince is the best in the series.

Angel Slayer by Michele Hauf ~ One of the best books I’ve ever won. Michele Hauf’s angels are different than you fluffy white winged variety and I really liked how dark it was. Fans of fallen angel books will enjoy.

Crimson Kiss by Trisha Baker ~ I’m sure a lot of people have not heard of this one. It’s not in print anymore and can be hard (and expensive) to come by but if you can manage to get your hands on it, do so. It reminds me a lot of Anne Rice but with it’s own style that doesn’t make me feel like I’m reading a Vampire Chronicles knock off. (Ok technically I read this at the end of last year but we didn’t do a top 10 last year so :-P)

Seduce the Darkness by Gena Showalter ~ This is my favorite book of Gena Showalter’s Alien Huntress series which I recently finished. I’m still crushing on Devyn. Really good paranormal romance series.

Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon ~ I refused to read YA. I HATE teenage drama and I need some adult content in my books. But then I heard one of my favorite characters from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series, Nick Gautier, was getting his own series and I knew I would be making an exception. I loved this book. Young Nick is exactly what I pictured and I loved seeing all the familiar characters from one of my favorite series.

Lover Mine by J.R. Ward ~ What can be said about this series that hasn’t already been mentioned? One of the best paranormal romance series period and Lover Mine is one of the best books in the series. John Matthew and Xhex gave us an emotional read and the ending was the perfect set up to Payne’s book which is easily one of the most anticipated books of 2012.

Ecstasy Unveiled/Sin Undone by Larissa Ione ~ 2010 marked the official end of Larissa Ione’s highly entertaining and addicting Demonica series. Luckily Larissa has assured us that we will still see our favorite characters in her new spin off series, Lords of Deliverance. The series ended with a sexy bang with Lore and Sin’s books.

Rajmund by D.B. Reynolds ~ If I was to name a vampire series I think more people should read it would be D.B. Reynold’s Vampire In America series. I love D.B.’s writing because she makes her vampires beautiful and powerful but writes in a way that you might actually be convinced it’s all real. Both Rajmund the vampire and the book were both dark and sexy and I can’t wait for the next book.

Athenna’s Top 10

Black Wings by Christina Henry ~ This was a refreshingly new story and i loved it. I loved the new take on the grim reaper and fallen angels it was a great new series and good read.

Haunted by Your Touch by Jeaniene Frost, Shayla Black and Sharie Kohler ~ This was that best anthology i have ever read i loved ever single one of the story’s and that has never happened to me. Each story makes the book worth the purchase but to all three so good is unheard of.

Archeron by Sherrilyn Kenyon ~ I loved this series but i loved this book a lot. it was too much for most people but since i was told in advance how bad it was and how much he went through i was prepared and i loved the book that much more because it was so well written that it made me hurt right there with him.

Sin Undone by Larissa Ione ~ K love this series but this book was a great conclusion to the wonderful series that it is and con is just irresistible i loved him. Of course Lores book was equally good but this was the latest one i read so i listed it.

Eternal kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost ~ Of course i love anything she does. i was not to sure how i would feel about this book he was not my favorite character ever , but this book put him in a different light all to gather and i thought of him differently and now i like him a lot. even find him sexy which i found him old before but he is actually very young.

Double Cross by Carolyn Crane ~ Of course this was a great book, i loved the first one but the second one blow me away i loved it i am soo excited for the next one.

Alpha by Rachel Vincent ~ Even though i was scared to read this book because i knew it was the last one and Faythe would have to chose between Jace and Marc and i didn’t want her to pick , read it and loved it. I felt so connect to the characters i felt there sadness with them.

A Rush of Wings by Adrian Phoenix ~ I loved Dante and this whole series i just devoured them once i read them. i couldn’t get enough of Dante. This is not your feel good series but it was so deep and so intense i just ate it up. i did have to read so happy books in between to lighten the mood some. but i love Dante it was OK.

Lover Mine by J.R. Ward ~ What can i say about this it the Brotherhood whats not to love about these books.

No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon ~ I loved Devs book. He was always a good side character but once i got to read his book i fell in love with him. and of course all the old characters came back to play and that made the book so much better.

  1. Love your list and Horray for the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Them boyz are fineeeeeee. LOL Nice list ladies :)

  2. I totally agree with you about Lover Mine. Oh how I love me some BDB!!! Thanks for the great list. You listed a few books that I haven’t heard of that I think I will definitely be checking out

  3. Oh yes The BDB and Demonica and Dark Hunters are the top of my list every year never fail- I will miss the Demonica series but eager for the The Lords of Deliverance Series.

Hope you Have a Happy New Year!

  4. Carolyn Crane blew my mind, no pun intended with both books but loved Double Cross the best!

Larissa Ione just put the frosting on the cake with the story for Lore and sister Sin, those Demonica books were all fab but the last 2 were my favorites also!

Athenna you and I have to be in the minority on the Dark Hunter series because Acheron was worth every tear and every bit of the angst reading the wonderful story written by Kenyon caused the reader! (I am looking forward to reading No Mercy as well)

The rest of the books some of them are on my TBR and some of them have been added to my Wishing To Read thanks to you two pointing them out!

My Top series this year was from Jennifer Estep and her Elemental Assassin books, cannot get better for me than Gin Blanco!

My most anticipated and the one that hurt the most to read was Alpha, when Rachel Vincent penned the last two books in the shifter series she pretty much broke my heart with every page but again well worth reading the books!

    jackie >_<

  5. Great choices ladies, I’ve read them all too except Black Wings which I will put on my list and Carolyn Cranes series. Always nice to have some new suggestins. Don’t read the analogies, prefer the longer books of those fabulous ladies. Happy New Year, and I look forward to your reviews, contests and the rest of the fun site.

  6. nice choices here, will have to try to read some.

  7. I liked Acheron too! Loved it I just can’t read that first section again. So sad my poor Acheron :-(
